On a Bender Through Denver
We've been MIA from the blog lately, but not (entirely) because we have been lazy. We have been on hiatus from the wilderness for the past month due to a detour in the midwest. Since we had to head west anyway, we figured we could stop and say hi to some friends. We spent some time in St. Louis, where we celebrated Mardi Gras (shout out Cameron and the boyz). We also took this opportunity to catch up on some crime solving, meaning we spent an entire day watching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
After Mardi Gras, we paid a visit to our Alma Mater, Mizzou, to make sure everything was how we left it. It wasn't. Bosley enjoyed showing Mila his old stomping grounds, and Matt and I enjoyed reliving our glory days. We began our college reunion tour with dollar pints at Big 12, made a pit stop by Shiloh for dollar shots, then played some pool at Field House before ending the night with Nachos Bianco at Addison's. I forgot how cheap it is to have fun in a college town. In the morning, we got what every college student desires after a night out - the Leo's of the West: Ernie's breakfast. It was also National Pizza Day (as if we needed an excuse), so we obviously got a box of Shakespeare's for the drive to Kansas City. Before leaving, we so badly wanted to strap the GoPro to Mila and let her loose through a lecture hall, but neither of us knew if this was illegal or just frowned upon. We made one last overnight stop in Kansas City (shoutout Duke and Slugger) before finally making it to the Rocky Mountain State.
The majority of our month in Colorado was spent couch surfing, thanks to Dirty Rob, Mikey/Toby, Casey, Reed, Mark, Ollie, Yount and Conor. We got our snow legs back with a trip to Breckenridge, spent one freezing cold night out in Winter Park, indulged in good eats, got paid a visit from Rachel and spent a day shredding Keystone, had a romantic Valentine's Day dinner with my five dates, celebrated Mila's second birthday, snowshoed at Estes Park, visited with my old friend Cory and my cousin Ryan for a hot minute, caught up on work (but mostly caught up on SVU), relived my childhood at the Red Wings vs. Avalanche alumni game, spent a week snowshoeing, horseback riding, snowboarding, skiing and hanging with Matt's parents in Crested Butte, and - above all else - spent a lot of money. But it was well worth it.
Although Colorado was a blast and we're excited to see what it has to offer in the summer, we couldn't wait to continue our journey in the Wild West…
